Namibian Movie Collection

The Namibian Movie Collection (NMC), launched in November 2009, now consists of 50 films made by Namibian filmmakers and foreign films with relevance to the Namibian film landscape. For the purpose of promotion, filmmakers agreed to grant noncommercial rights of their films to be part of the collection and the Franco Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) granted space in its Multimedia Library for public access.

For a broader dissemination and exposure, a catalogue of the Namibian Movie Collection is published on the website of AfricAvenir, introducing Namibian films and filmmakers to an international audience. “We believe this is necessary and crucial towards achieving the overall objective, the development of the Namibian film industry,” says Director of AfricAvenir Namibia Hans-Christian Mahnke.

Since its creation, the NMC has been reproduced and donated to the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies and has been purchased by several libraries outside Namibia. Read more about Namibian Movie Collection

VMP SHARES ‘FUN IN THE SUN’ WITH FANS

Popular Keetmanshoop music group, VMP, hosted their second annual music show for residents this past Saturday.

Jumping castles, water slides and mini pools for children, a football competition and performances by VMP, Bones from the Windhoek Street Kids Kwaito group, Prince and Tabakana were some of the highlights on the day.

VMP, which is short for Virtual Music Productions, is a Kwaito/ R&B group made up of members CT, DJ Nxt, DJ Early, Romeo, BK, Zamaz, MoD and Montilicious.

This year’s theme was “Fun in the Sun”, and was aimed at bringing together all the group’s supporters, children and people of Keetmanshoop to have fun and celebrate the festive season. Read more about VMP SHARES ‘FUN IN THE SUN’ WITH FANS

Top act in Independence Avenue

TOP ACT: Thousands of Windhoekers welcomed 2013 in style with the hosting of the New Year’s Eve bash alongside Independence Avenue on Monday. The party, which lasted until the wee hours of yesterday, took place in front of the City of Windhoek headquarters and included performances by Big Ben (pictured), Tequila, 4x4 Too Much Power, Tate Buti, PDK, Maszanga and Max The Don, amongst others. Liquid Events, who now runs the Playhouse Theatre bar is a client-focused bar service with experienced cocktail bartenders. They have a customised cocktail menu to meet everyone’s needs. Chops says there are di¬ erent types of cocktails - alcoholic and nonalcoholic.

“We have moved beyond Pina Coladas with an umbrella and glacé cherry garnish. Most discerning drinkers now know their Mojitos from their Margaritas, but they may not know how to make them at home. Looking for Iilonga is an 18-minute short film that received two certificates in the United States of America at the New York Film Expedition last week.

Tim Huebschle, the film’s director, says the certificates were a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition and a Certificate of Recognition. “This film was submitted to countless international festivals and people liked it. Initially the film was not selected by most festivals, but gradually interest was awoken and the little Namibian story was seen by international audiences,” says the proud producer. L.A. Reid quits X Factor

Epic Records chairman L.A. Reid is quitting The X Factor to return to the label.

The music mogul, who along with Simon Cowell is one of the original judges on the US show, has decided not to return to the competition next year because he wants to focus on his role as chairman of Epic Records.

He told Access Hollywood: “I have decided that I will not return to The X Factor next year. It saddens me a little bit, but only a little bit. I have a company to run that I’ve kind of neglected.”
